— In Time —
Golf has been played here since 1895, on a course laid out in the tradition of five-time Open champion James Braid — one of the reasons we're a member of the Association of James Braid Courses. Eighteen holes wind through mature parkland above Johnstone, each one named for its own bit of history: Bulawayo, Poker Flat, Red Lodge, Moorburn, Home.
Ten par 4s, six par 3s and a pair of par 5s, with a couple of holes that shift par depending on the tee you play. Generous off the tee in places, tight and thoughtful in others — the sort of round that rewards a straight ball and forgives the odd loose one. Men's and ladies' tees throughout.
Barclay Howard, Hedgehog, Red Lodge, Tower and Hard Luck — the short holes carry the names, and the character, of the club. Miss in the wrong spot and par gets interesting. Get the club right and you'll walk off smiling. Bring every iron in the bag.
The closing stretch runs Road, Benston and Home, back up toward the clubhouse and a warm welcome. Trolleys, buggies and bag hire are available — and there's a table worth staying for once the card's signed.
